Imaginative new schemes launching in 2018 will brighten Brighton and bring culture to Kent, the two regions have recently announced.
In Brighton, a 300-metre long zipwire will transport daredevil visitors from the top of a 22.5 metre tower on the seafront. The attraction’s owners Paramount Entertainments hope to release 32,000 visitors down the thrill-ride every year.
“We are very excited about the project and we are all looking forward to a very good summer [2018],” said general manager Delso De Silva. “The design is totally bespoke for Brighton and it will be like no attraction anywhere else.”
The popularity of large zipwires has risen in recent years, with the mile-long Velocity ride in North Wales reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.
For less sporty visitors, Soho House is building a £60 million private members’ restaurant and club, with construction due to begin later in 2017.
In Kent, meanwhile, a 3,000-seat open air theatre and cinema space is under construction near Deal on the coast east of Dover, as part of the Betteshanger Sustainable Parks project. The former colliery site will open in 2018 attracting visitors to performances and festivals, while Betteshanger Business, a green technologies business park, aims to attract health and wellbeing, food security, environmental technology and life sciences companies.
